Gold
—Sell Gold, Silver & Coins in Atlanta
Alex Lexington has been buying precious metals from Georgia families since 1977. Bring your coins, bars, jewelry or scrap to our Chamblee counter and we will test it in front of you, quote it against live spot in writing, and pay you the same day. If you would rather not travel, we ship you an insured prepaid label instead. Quotes are free, in writing, and non-binding.
What We Buy
All four precious metals, in every form they arrive in — gold, silver, platinum and palladium, as coins, bars, jewelry, flatware, dental and lab material, and industrial stock.
Coins & Bullion
- Gold and silver bullion — American Eagles, Canadian Maple Leafs, Krugerrands, Austrian Philharmonics, Britannias, and bars from one gram to one kilogram
- Pre-1933 U.S. gold — Saint-Gaudens $20, Liberty $20, $10, $5 and $2.50 pieces, graded or raw
- Constitutional silver — 90% Morgan and Peace dollars, Walking Liberty halves, Washington quarters, Mercury and Roosevelt dimes; 40% Kennedy halves; 35% war nickels
- Platinum and palladium — coins and bars
Fine Jewelry
- Gold jewelry in any karat — 10K, 14K, 18K, 22K and 24K
- Broken chains, single earrings, bent rings and unwearable pieces, bought on metal content
- Platinum jewelry
- Diamond and gemstone pieces — these go to the valuation desk rather than onto the scrap scale, because a stone is not worth its setting's weight in gold
Sterling Flatware & Hollowware
- Sterling flatware, hollowware and serving pieces, weighed as a lot
- Plated items hold no recoverable silver value. If that is what you have, we will tell you at the counter rather than after you have driven home.
Dental & Lab Scrap
- Dental gold — crowns, bridges and dental alloy
- Laboratory sweeps and alloy
Lab & Industrial Stock
- Sputtering targets, crucibles and thermocouple wire
- Wire, sheet and grain
- Plating solutions
Estates & Collections
- Inherited holdings, accumulations and full collections. See our selling process, or call ahead so we can set aside the time.
How Selling Works
Two ways to do it, and the offer is worked out the same way either way.
At the counter in Chamblee
- Come in. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred — selling a collection moves faster with a specialist set aside for you. Call 404.815.8893.
- We test it in front of you. Every piece is weighed and verified on our own XRF spectrometer at the counter. You watch the reading. Nothing leaves your sight.
- You get the number in writing. Your offer is quoted against live spot at the moment we make it, itemized piece by piece, with the metal content and the rate shown. You keep the sheet whether you sell or not.
- Decide with no pressure. Take the quote home. Compare it. Come back tomorrow or next month — we will requote it at that day's spot.
- Get paid same day. Check, wire or ACH, settled the day you accept.
By insured shipping
You do not have to travel. We send fully-insured prepaid shipping, open your package on camera, and quote against live spot. You approve the figure before payment; decline it and the items ship back insured, free.
Want a number before you send anything? Run the scrap calculator for jewelry, dental and flatware, or the buyback calculator for coins and bars. Both price off live spot and show what we pay.
Why Sell to Alex Lexington
- A family firm since 1977. Now in its third generation, with roots in New York's Diamond District and a counter in Chamblee. We are still here next year, which matters when you are selling something that took a lifetime to accumulate.
- Tested in front of you. XRF spectrometry at the counter, not in a back room. You see the purity reading we are pricing from. More on how testing works.
- Written, itemized offers. Piece by piece, with weight, purity and the spot rate used. Not one number for a pile.
- A+ rated by the Better Business Bureau. BBB accredited.
- We are a dealer, not a pop-up. We hold inventory and trade daily, so we can pay closer to melt than a buyer who has to resell your metal to someone like us.

Selling an Estate or an Inherited Collection
Inherited holdings are rarely sorted, and they are often a mix — a few bullion coins, some sterling, a box of jewelry, and one or two pieces that are worth considerably more than they look. We go through it with you, separate what has collector value from what is worth its metal, and tell you plainly when something should be sold as a collectible rather than melted. If a piece belongs at auction instead of at our counter, we will say so.
For an estate or a large collection, call 404.815.8893 to arrange a dedicated appointment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I sell gold in Atlanta?
Alex Lexington buys gold at our Chamblee counter, minutes from Buckhead, Dunwoody and Sandy Springs. We have been buying precious metals from Georgia families since 1977, we test on site with XRF spectrometry, and we quote against live spot in writing. Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Can I sell without visiting the store?
Yes. We send fully-insured prepaid shipping, open your package on camera, and quote against live spot. You approve the figure before payment; decline it and the items ship back insured, free.
How much will I get for my gold?
Your offer is based on the actual metal content of each piece, measured on our spectrometer, quoted against the live spot price at the moment we make the offer. Bullion coins and bars price closest to spot. Scrap jewelry prices off its measured karat. We show you the weight, the purity and the rate we used, so you can check the arithmetic yourself. For an estimate before you come in, run the scrap or buyback calculator.
Do I need an appointment to sell?
Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred — selling a collection moves faster with a specialist set aside for you. Call 404.815.8893 to book one.
How fast do I get paid?
At the counter, the same day you accept, by check, wire transfer or ACH. On a shipped lot, once you approve the figure.
Will you buy broken or mismatched jewelry?
Yes. Broken chains, single earrings, bent rings and unwearable pieces are all bought on metal content. Condition does not reduce what the gold in them is worth.
Do you buy sterling silver flatware?
Yes — sterling flatware, hollowware and serving pieces. Bring the whole set; we weigh it as a lot. Plated items hold no recoverable silver value, and we will tell you at the counter if that is what you have.
Do you buy dental gold and lab scrap?
Yes. Dental gold, crowns, bridges and dental alloy, laboratory sweeps, and industrial stock such as sputtering targets, crucibles, thermocouple wire, wire, sheet, grain and plating solutions.
What should I bring with me?
The items and a government-issued photo ID. Georgia law requires dealers to record identification on precious metals purchases. Nothing needs to be cleaned, sorted or polished first.
Should I sell my coins for melt value?
Not always, and we will tell you when the answer is no. Some dated coins, mint marks and graded pieces are worth more to a collector than the metal in them. We separate those out rather than melting them, because selling you short once costs us the next thirty years of your business.
